Frequently Asked Questions:

What is a short circuit?

A short circuit often happens when a hot wire touches a neutral wire or ground, leading to a sudden surge of current. This creates an unintended path for electricity to flow, bypassing the intended circuit.

Both Fuses and Circuit breakers are designed to protect circuits from overloads, however they differ in how they work. A fuse has very a thin wire that melts this breaks the circuit when a certain limited is exceeded. A circuit breaker trips and the switch flips and opens the circuit when overloaded, this can then be reset.

The Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter commonly abbreviated to GFCI is a safety device that monitors the flow of electricity. If a leakage of current to ground is detected it shuts off the power. This helps prevent electric shock, especially in areas  where there is water like bathrooms and kitchens.

The problem is usually identified by process off elimination. This often includes checking for blown fuse, testing voltage and current, tripped circuit breakers or inspecting wiring and connections, and using diagnostic tools like multimeters.
